Venue Big Wood - Hindon, WiltshireST930360
Acknowledgements We would like to thank the Fonthill estate for permission to run the event and the assistance they have given.
Wildlife The woodland has a population of deer which are timid and easily frightened creatures; if spooked they could injure themselves running into fences, which they have difficulty seeing. Should you come across a deer please try to not alarm it. You may see fences with red and white tape on them; this is to help the deer and not to do with the orienteering.
Dogs: In the car park only and must be kept on a lead at all times.
Directions: The event will be accessed from the A303 at Chicklade ST910345. The A303 is a fast and busy road and all traffic should approach from the West. Traffic from the East should follow the route signs from ST934343. on the A303 which will take a safe route so as to approach from the West. From other directions the route will also be signed from the A303 / A350 junction at ST886340.
Parking: Parking will be on a mixture of a field and tracks. Should the ground be very wet we may segregate 4 wheel drive vehicles to the wetter areas. Please follow the directions from the car park marshals.
The single lane access track will be used for both arrivals and departures so no departures before Midday, please.
A parking fee of £2 will be collected on the approach to the car park, please try and have the correct change.
The access and car parks are not suitable for large coaches but we can accommodate small coaches. Please email organiser sarumo@aol.com if you plan to bring a small coach or largish motor home
The maximum distance from car parking to the Assembly area is 1000metres

Terrain The area sits on an East-West longitudinal ridge with the land dropping gently away on each side. At the West end the area is largely of managed conifers with some wild woodland at the fringes and a network of paths and tracks. The East end has a greater mix of woodland and a number of deeper valleys and ancient earthworks. The central area is managed for shooting, which has produced some intricate path mazes. Like most forest in this region areas of undergrowth are found but at this time of year the forest will be at its best. Unusually, the map has no water features.
